The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the major regional party in Punjab, had quit from the BJP-led NDA coalition on Saturday, September 26, 2020 to protest against the NDA government's controversial three farm bills passed by the Parliament recently.
The SAD had already quit from the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet recently when the farm bill were introduced in the Parliament.
In this backdrop, speculation are rife in political circles that the ruling YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh is all set to join NDA in the place of SAD.
It may be noted that YSRCP chief and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy recently met union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi twice.
Jagan met Amit Shah when SAD had quit Modi'd cabinet.
This triggered speculations that Jagan had offered to join NDA in the place of SAD.
Jagan wants to join NDA government and secure two or three berths in Modi's cabinet amid speculations that Modi is all set to reshuffle his cabinet anytime soon.
Previous ruling party in Andhra Pradesh, TDP led of previous AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu was part of NDA in 2014. However, TDP quit from NDA before 2019 Lok Sabha polls to protest NDA government's failure in according 'special category status' to AP.
Now, Jagan wants to fill this gap by making YSRCP join NDA and also to fill the gap created by SAD.
Jagan is facing several CBI and ED cases pertaining to corruption, money laundering, quid pro quo etc and already spent 16 months in Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad in 2012-13. He is currently out on bail and political speculations are rife that Jagan wants to shield himself from these cases at least till 2024 Lok Sabha polls by joining NDA.
