Hyderabad, September 16, 2020: "Our sole aim should be to win Telangana Assembly elections in 2023 and defeat KCR regime," said new AICC Incharge of Telangana Manickam
Tagore on Wednesday, September 16, 2020.
In his maiden interaction with senior leaders of Telangana Congress
through Zoom video-conference, Manickam Tagore said that it was
unfortunate that the Congress party could not win from Telangana, a
State for which Congress President Sonia Gandhi sacrificed another
State (Andhra Pradesh) and also a major share of seats in Lok Sabha.
Therefore, he said winning Assembly elections in Telangana should be
the sole aim of all Congress leaders and workers.
Manickam Tagore said that the Congress party needs to have a winning
combination in Telangana. "We have Sachins and Dhonis in our team. But
we need to act as a team with discipline and mutual understanding. Our
only target should be 2023 Assembly elections. Everyone will take the
credit. You don't see this as a Tennis match, but as a cricket match
where every player needs to play a role," he said.
The AICC Incharge said that he could not immediately travel to
Hyderabad due to Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing Monsoon Session of
Parliament. He said he would visit Hyderabad in the first week of
October after getting a brief from AICC President Sonia Gandhi and
Rahul Gandhi after they return from foreign visit.
Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy formally welcomed Tagore as the new AICC
Incharge and assured full support on behalf of the entire TPCC. He
briefly introduced all the leaders to Manickam Tagore. He said that
the main focus of today's meeting was membership drive, Dubbak
by-elections, municipal elections in GHMC, Warangal and Khammam and
MLC election from Nalgonda, Warangal & Khammam Graduate Constituency.
He said that discussions were held in a positive and constructive
manner. He said that the candidates for Dubbak by-elections would be
finalised soon. He said incharges for every Mandal and village would
be appointed in the next few days. He said a panel of leaders would be
deployed full time for Dubbak by-polls. Further, he said that the
Congress party would focus on enrolment of voters for Nalgonda,
Warangal and Khammam Graduate Constituency for MLC polls.
Manickam Tagore said that the Congress would focus on strengthening
the organisation in Telangana. He said that the party would go tough
on disciplinary issues. "We will win the next elections in a unified
and disciplined manner," he said.
