Actress Vijayashanthi needs no introduction. She ruled the Indian film industry in 1980s and 1990s by rising to the top by acting in movies in all languages including Bollywood. She was popularly known as 'Lady Amitabh' in those days.
However, in early 2000s she quit films to join politics. She began her career with BJP, later formed her own party "Talli Telangana" with an aim to achieve statehood for Telangana. She later became close to TRS chief KCR, merged her party into TRS and became TRS Lok Sabha member from KCR's home district Medak in 2009. But she quit TRS just before 2014 general elections to join Congress. But she was defeated by TRS in Medak Assembly seat in 2014.
Since then, Vijayashanthi is not active in politics. She recently made a grand re-entry into Tollywood with superstar Mahesh Babu's blockbuster "Sarileru Neekevvaru" released in January 2020.
Now, there is a hot topic in political circles that Vijayashanthi is going to contest Dubbaka Assembly bypoll exected in November 2020.
The bypoll is necessitated with the untimely death of TRS MLA Solipeta Ramalingareddy recently, who won thrice from this seat.
The Congress is planning to field Vijayashanthi from this seat to give a tough fight to TRS as the party hopes that Vijayashanthi has good following in Dubbaka, which falls under Undivided Medak district, for which Vijayashanthi was MP from 2009 to 2014.
Vijayashanthi too wants to avenge her defeat at the hands of KCR and TRS in 2014 and she wants to teach a fitting lesson to KCR and TRS by winning this seat.
However, an official confirmation is still awaited whether Vijayashanthi will contest or not.
