UG, PG final semester exams compulsory, no postponement: Central Govt

The Central government on Monday, July 6, 2020 permitted all the universities and institutions to conduct semester exams for under graduate and post graduate courses.

The union ministry of home affairs issued orders to this effect.

The home ministry gave its approval to conduct examinations in response to a letter to Union Higher Education Secretary, who sought clarification on semester exams.

The central government made it clear that the final term examinations are to be compulsorily conducted as per the guidelines of the Universities Grants Commission (UGC) on examinations and academic calendar for the universities, and as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) approved by the Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

Though students across the country have been demanding postponement or cancellation of their exams amid rising coronavirus cases, the Central government rejected their demand.

Students took to Twitter to voice their concerns on exams. While some states took their call and cancelled the exams while the others decided to conduct the examinations online. However, with Central government's latest directions, all the universities need to conduct semester exams for UG, PG courses.
