The Supreme Court is most likely to deliver its judgement on UG/ PG final exams today, Monday, August 24, 2020.
A group of 31 students from different States in India have filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking cancellation of UG/ PG final exams and award certificates to students without conducting exams in the wake of corona pandemic across the country.
The students brought to the notice of Supreme Court that if exams are held at this juncture it will pose risk to lives of crores of students across India due to increasing corona cases in all the states.
However, the UGC argued in the Supreme Court that UG/PG exams are compulsory and students should appear for these exams to get certificates. The UGC argued that if certificates are awarded to UG/ PG final semester/ year students without exams, those certificates will hold no value. The UGC directed all universities in India to conduct UG/ PG final exams compulsory in September 2020.
But students and parents across India are strongly opposing UGC decision to hold UG/ PG final exams and demanding cancellation of exams. They filed petitions in Supreme Court against UGC decision.
The Supreme Court heard the case for several days. The hearing concluded on hearing of this case on August 18 but reserved its judgement.
The Supreme Court is most likely to deliver judgement today, August 24, 2020.
However, going by the judgement Supreme Court had given last week by refusing to postpone NEET 2020 and JEE Main 2020 as sought by students and parents, the chances of Supreme Court cancelling UG/PG final exams are remote.
The Supreme Court is most likely to give its judgemet in favour of UGC's decision to hold UG/PG final exams compulsory today, August 24.
