The Telangana High Court on Thursday, July 9, 2020 heard the petition seeking the cancellation of semester exams for Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses in Telangana in the wake of corona pandemic.
The petition was filed by students organisation NSUI.
The advocate general representing the state government informed High Court that the government will conduct exams for final semester students as directed by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
He said exams cannot be cancelled as per UGC's latest directions. He said the government will announce schedule for exams in next three weeks.
However, the advocate for the petitioner argued that the UGC's guidelines were only 'advisory' and not 'mandatory' and the state government can take a decision on its own keeping in view the increasing corona cases in Telangana and the safety of students. He said some seven to eight state governments in the country already announced cancellation of UG, PG exams.
The court directed the state government to file a counter on this issue in three weeks and postponed the case for three weeks.
