The Telangana High Court on Monday, June 29, 2020 allowed the state government to demolish Old Secretariat complex and construct a new one in its place.
The High Court has dismissed the petitions filed against the demolition of Secretariat complex.
Several petition were filed in the High Court against the decision of Telangana government to demolish Old Secretariat complex and construct a new one in its place with a cost of around Rs 400 crore. They contended that the existing Secretariat complex is fit to offer services for few more decades and its demolition would lead to huge wastage of public money. They alleged that Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was demolishing Secretariat purely for 'vastu reasons'.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao laid foundation for construction of new Secretariat complex with ultra-modern facilities exactly a year ago in June 2019.
This evoked strong protests from Opposition parties and civil society organisations.
The existing Secretariat was vacated a year ago and shifted to nearby BRK Bhavan as a temporary arrangement.
