TDP chief and former AP CM N Chandrababu Naidu is trying to revive Telugu Desam party in Telangana.
The ruling TRS in Telangana has wiped out TDP from Telangana branding it as 'Andhra party' and taking all Telangana TDP leaders into its fold through 'operation akarsh'.
Even after the formation of Telangana State in 2014, TDP performed well in 2104 Assembly polls winning 15 seats in alliance with BJP, which won 5 seats.
But KCR later wiped out TDP from Assembly by engineering defections when 12 TDP MLAs joined TRS. KCR exploited the 'cash for vote' case in May 2015, when TDP MLA Revanth Reddy was caught by ACB while giving bribe to TRS nominated MLA seeking his vote in favour of MLC election allegedly at the behest of then AP CM Chadrababu. KCR govt also released audio tapes of Chandrababu allegedly speaking to TRS MLA offering bribe.
With this incident, Chandrababu shifted AP capital to Amaravathi from joint capital Hyderabad though he had the provision to rule from AP for 10 years. After Naidu left Hyderabad, KCR finished TDP completely in Telangana by taking all the top TDP leaders and cadre into TRS.
Naidu lost power to Jagan even in AP in May 2019 polls. Since then, Naidu is spending every weekend (Saturday and Sunday) at his Jubilee Hills residence in Hyderabad.
Naidu is now focussing on Telangana politics as GHMC elections, MLC polls and Warnagal, Khammam municipal polls are to held in the next five months.
Naidu is reportedly in touch with previous TDP senior leaders in Telangana, Tummala Nageshwar Rao, Kadiam Srihari, Mandava Venkateshwar Rao, Jupally Krishna Rao, etc besides several disgruntled leaders in TRS and Congress, who are sidelined in their respective parties.
Naidu has high hopes on TDP doing better in GHMC polls and Khammam municipal corporation polls where there is large chunk of Seemandhra natives population.
Naidu believes that once TDP performs better in GHMC polls and Khammam polls, it will automatically give life to TDP in Telangana and more and more previous TDP leaders in TRS, Congress, BJP and other parties will come back to TDP.
Chandrababu believes that TRS is facing a lot of anti-incumbency due to the misrule of KCR during the last six years and it is the right time for TDP to strike back in Telangana.
