The Election Commission of India today, Sepember 25, 2020, Friday, announced the schedule for long pending MLC election for Nizamabad Local Authorities constituency.
This election was supposed to held on April 7, 2020 as per original schedule. However, the election was postponed due to corona lockdown since mid-March 2020.
The EC today announced that the election will be held on October 9, 2020 and the result will be declared on October 12, 2020.
It may be recalled that TRS has fielded Kalvakuntal Kavitha, the daughter of TRS chief and Telangana CM KCR, as its candidate.
Former Nizamabad MP Kavitha, who lost Nizamabad Lok Sabha election in May 2019, has remained inactive in politics since then.
Kavitha's victory in MLC polls is a foregone conclusion as ZPTCs, MPTCs, sarpanches and ward members in gram panchayats and municipal councillors and ward members in municipalities and corporations are eligible to vote in these elections.
Since TRS swept all zilla parishad, mandal parishad, gram panchayat, municipal polls in Nizamabad district, over 90 per cent of the total voters belong to TRS.
For this reason, Kavitha's victory in this election is a foregone conclusion.
Kavitha is all set to become MLC on October 12, 2020 and enter into state politics.
