Osmania University, Hyderabad, is planning to cut degree (UG) first year syllabus by 30% to make up for the loss of working days for degree colleges due to corona pandemic for the ensuing new academic year 2020-21.
All degree colleges in Telangana remain closed since mid-March this year due to corona situation.
There is no clarity when degree colleges will be opened as corona cases continue to incrase day after day in Telangana and in Hyderabad. Due to this, the new academic year 2020-21 did not commence so far.
In this backdrop, the OU officials are planning to cut degree syllabus with a view that degree colleges may begin from November this year after Dasara.
There are two semesters for degree students every year.
It will be difficult to complete two semesters within six five months from November 2020 to March 2021.
OU officials say degree syllabus is interlinked by 30% between first, second and third year courses.
Officials are planning to cut this interlinked 30% syllabus in first year. This reduced interlinked syllabus will be taught for first year students in second year.
OU officials have sought permission of state government to cut syllabus and awaiting approval.
