TRS chief and Telangana CM KCR sprang a surprise by deciding to hold the crucial GHMC polls in Hyderabad on December 1, 2020.
Telangana State Election Commission issued GHMC poll notification to this effect today, Tuesday, November 17, 2020.
The polling will be held on December 1, 2020 and the counting will be held on December 4.
This time GHMC elections will be held in ballot box method unlike earlier when EVMs were used. No EVMs will be used in GHMC polls this time.
The filing of nominations will commence tomorrow, November 18, 2020 and will end in three days on November 20, 2020.
KCR's master stroke of advancing GHMC polls by nearly three months has left Opposition parties shocked. The entire election process will be over in just 19 days.
Opposition parties don't have time even to find candidates for 150 wards.
KCR took this flash decision to push Opposition parties into defensive mode.
They will be busy with strong candidates to take on TRS leaving no time for them to campaign against TRS or KCR or TRS government.
KCR seems to have followed "2018 Assembly elections sentiment" by advancing Assembly polls to December 2018 against original schedule of May 2019. It worked in favour of TRS and KCR became CM for second term.
Similarly, KCR has now advanced GHMC polls by nearly three months as the present GHMC Council term is set to end on February 10, 2021.
It remains to be seen whether KCR's master stroke works or not this time in GHMC polls.
