Kalvakuntla Kavitha, the former Nizamabad Lok Sabha member and daughter of TRS chief, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, returned to active politics with a bang by defeating opposition Congress, BJP with a huge majority in the Nizamabad local body authorities MLC bypoll, the result of which was declared today, Monday, October 12, 2020.
The election for this bypoll was held on October 9.
Kavitha secured 728 votes, while BJP was polled just 56 votes and Congress even worse at just 29 votes. Both Congress and BJP failed to retain their deposits.
Only the representatives of local bodies in Undivided Nizamabad district, that is MPTCs, ZPTCs, councillors, corporators and ex-officio member can exercise their franchise in these elections.
The original strength of TRS in these local bodies in 494, Congress 140, BJP 84, AIMIM 28, Independents 66 and others 12.
AIMIM, Independents and others have extended support to Kavitha.
Kavitha should get 600 votes going by this. But she secured 728 votes proving that a large scale cross voting from Congress, BJP took place in favour of TRS.
Congress should get 140 votes as per its strength but got just 29.
Similarly, BJP should get 84 votes, but got just 56.
TRS victory was anyway a foregone conclusion in this election even before election notification was issued going by its strength in local bodies but what was shocking was Congress and BJP failed to retain their own votes.
More than the defeat, what remained humiliation for Congress and BJP was their own party voters voting for TRS.
