JEE Main, NEET drives student to suicide in Tamil Nadu

Depressed over non-postponement of JEE Main 2020 and NEET 2020 exams by the Supreme Court and the Central government, a girl student in Tamil Nadu allegedly committed suicide in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, August 18, 2020.

According to police, the 19-year old girl student was preparing for NEET 2020.

She was tensed and worried over appearing for NEET exam in September due to corona pandemic in Tamil Nadu.

She was hoping for Supreme Court and Central government postponing NEET due to corona pandemic.

However, with Supreme Court refusing to postpone JEE Main and NEET three days ago and Central government going ahead with conducting these exams in September as scheduled, the girl student went into depression.

The teenager was found hanging in her room on Tuesday evening by her mother, who immediately lodged a complaint with the police. Further investigations will reveal what led to the suicide, police added.

The 19-year old resident of East Venkatasamy Road was preparing for NEET, scheduled to be held in September, for the past few months and was found depressed. The girl took the extreme step as she was scared of the approaching the exam, they said.

Meanwhile, DMK MLA N Karthik who visited the victim's house demanded the Centre to immediately cancel JEE Main and NEET to save the lives of students.
