The prestigious IITs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will offer new courses and more seats in the current academic year 2020-21.
Students who secure better ranks in JEE Advanced 2020 will get the opportunity to opt for these IITs in the counselling.
IIT-Hyderabad has decided to introduce B.Tech (biomedical engineering) this year in which 30 seats will be on offer.
IIT-Hyd and IIT-Delhi have decided to introduce Bachelor of Design (BDes) courses from this year. IIT-Hyd will offer 20 seats and IIT-Delhi 40 seats. Studetns have to qualify in Undergraduate Common Entrance Exam for Design (UCEED) to secure seats in these courses.
IIT-Hyd director Murthy said the need for introducing B.Tech (biomedical) arose due to corona as there is a need to study and do research on ventilators and other equipment pertaining to corona. He said IIT-Hyd will also introduces new courses in M.Tech like M.Tech (E-waste resource).
IIT-Tirupathi has decided to introduce M.Sc (Chemistry) and M.Sc (Physics) courses this year.
IIT-Delhi is going to introduce B.Tech (Engineering and computational mechanics) course this year.
Due to introduction of new courses and increase in supernumerary seats for girls, the seats in all IITs are expected to increase by 300 this year. With this, the total number of seats in IITs will increase from the present 13,674 to 14,000 this year.
