In a shocking incident, a police constable in Hyderabad was arrested on Thursday, June 25, on charges of raping a 12-year old minor girl.
The 33-year old constable Varadaraj Sudesh Umesh, working in Ramgopalpet police station, is a relative of the minor girl.
Bowenpally police booked the case and arrested the constable.
The victim approached the NGO, Balala Hakkula Sangam, with the mother after she shared her plight with her.
"Our NGO immidiately informed the issue to Additional Commissioner of Hyderabad Police, Shikha Goel and she assured us that action will be intiated promptly. She also told us she alerted the DCP of North Zone as the area of the crime comes under Bowenpally Police Station limits and the accused and victim's family are neighbours" said Achyuta Rao, president of the NGO.
The accused took advantage of the Lockdown and approached the victim when she was alone at home. "He also threatened her that if she informs any one about the assault, she will be killed," said the police.
"We received the complaint by the minor victim girl at Bowenpally police with contents of sexual assault by a Police Constable. Basing on her statement, a case was registered under section 376(3) and 506 of the IPC and section 5(a) read with 6 of PoCSO Act. We immediately placed the accused Police Constable under arrest," said the DCP of North Zone, Kamaleshwar.
Hyderabad city police commissioner, Anjani Kumar tweeted, "None is above law. We had to arrest a Constable of Ramgopalpet who molested a girl. He is being sent to jail. I feel ashamed that there are such black sheeps in our department. DO HELP US IMPROVE. Your feedback at 9490616555 will be our strength and guidance." (Sic).
