GHMC polls: Rigging or voting?

The voting percentage in GHMC elections held on December 1, 2020 was very poor throughout the day.

The polling was held from 7 am to 6 pm. As per official data released by Telangana State Election Commission (TSEC), the voting percentage was just 36 per cent till 5 pm.

TSEC stopped releasing voting data later. However, on December 2 morning, TSEC claimed that the total voting percentage was 46 per cent.

The sudden increase in voting percentage by 10 per cent in the last hour from 5 pm to 6 pm led to suspicion over whether it was real voting or rigging by any parties.

The question being raised is how come voters who did not turn up in large numbers for 10 hours from 7 am to 5pm suddenly arrived at polling booths in large numbers at the final hour.

There is no satisfactory answer from either TSEC officials or GHMC officials or police officials on this.

With this, Opposition BJP, Congress, TDP, Left Parties are suspecting foul play and alleging that the ruling TRS and its friendly party AIMIM had rigged the elections at the last hour due to which the polling increased sharply by 10 per cent in just an hour.

The counting of votes will take place tomorrow, December 4, 2020 from 8am.
