The Telangana state government has decided to implement the Central government's 10% quota for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS quota).
EWS quota for admissions in educational institutions, professional colleges will come into force from 2021-22 academic year since the admissions for present academic year 2020-21 were already over.
EWS quota in state government jobs will be applicable with immediate effect. All the recruitment notifications to be issued by state government recruitment boards like TSPSC, TS police recruitment board etc will have 10% EWS quota from now onwards.
The seats in higher education and professional courses in Telangana will increase by nearly 70,000 seats from coming academic year 2021-22 due to implementation of 10% EWS quota.
B.Tech seats (engineering) will increase by nearly 10,000 seats. This will be in addition to existing one lakh seats in engineering colleges in Telangana now.
The UG (under graduate) seats in degree colleges will increase by 40,000 seats.
The seats in B.Pharmacy, MBA, MCA, B.Ed, Law, M.Tech, M.Pharmacy, MA, M.Com, M.Sc courses etc will also increase by 10%.
The EWS quota will benefit poor students in upper castes, whose family's annual income limit is less than Rs 8 lakh per year.
