Eamcet: 1,179 B.Tech seats cut, 10 Engg colleges closed!

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has cut 1,179 B.Tech seats in Andhra Pradesh for the new academic year 2020-21.

It has also rejected approval to 10 engineering colleges.

Last year, AICTE had granted approval to 284 engineering colleges in AP. But this year, it had granted approval for only 274 colleges.

Last year, the AICTE approved 1,44,433 B.Tech seats in AP in private and government engineering colleges. This year, it has cut the seats to 1,43,254 seats.

The seats in government engineering colleges witnessed marginal increase while the seats in private colleges came down.

Last year, there were 1,40,763 B.Tech seats in private engineering colleges. This year, the AICTE has cut 1,791 seats.

Seats in thee deemed universities were also reduced. Last year, the AICTE had approved 7,800 B.Tech seats in deemed universities. But this year, it approved only 7,20 seats.
