As the Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) like HPCL, BPCL, IOC continue to hike petrol, diesel prices in India for the 18th day in a row since June 6, 2020, the difference between petrol and diesel prices is becoming negligible.
There were times in India when diesel prices used to be almost half of petrol price.
But after deregulation of oil prices, the prices of diesel surged faster than petrol.
Now, diesel prices are on par with petrol prices in several state in the country.
In fact, diesel price became costlier than petrol in Delhi on June 24,2020 for the first time in India's history.
Diesel in Delhi is being sold for Rs 79.88 per litre, which petrol price is lower at Rs 79.76.
However, in Telugu States Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, there is still a price difference of Rs 5 between diesel and petrol.
Diesel in Rs 5 cheaper than petrol in Telangana and AP. Petrol costs Rs 82 per litre and disel Rs 77 per litre.
However there are indications that diesel price will overtake petrol price in Telugu States soon.
