The "Amaravathi agitation" by farmers and their families of 29 villages falling in AP capital region development authority (APCRDA) completed 200 days on Saturday, July 4, 2020.
They are agitating for the past 200 days demanding Jagan government in AP to continue Amaravathi as the only capital of AP and withdraw the decision to create three capitals for AP.
Jagan government has decided to shift state administration (Secretariat and HoDs) to Vizag and judiciary (AP High Court) to Kurnool and confining Amaravathi only as legislative capital which houses AP Legislative Assembly and AP Legislative Council. Even the Legislative Council will vanish anytime with Jagan passing a resolution in Assembly few months ago abolishing Council and is pending with the Centre now for approval.
As many as 29,881 farmers have sacrificed their 34,500 acres fertile lands with a hope that AP will get a world class capital city in the form of Amaravathi.
But CM Jagan shattered their hopes by deciding to set up three capitals for AP.
Unable to bear the mental agony, already 68 farmers lost their lives.
Farmers and their family members are protesting every day braving police lathi charges and cases. They are even fighting legal cases against Jagan government in the AP High Court and the Supreme Court.
Over 600 cases were filed against farmers and their family members for taking up protest programmes against Jagan government but it did not deter farmers from continuing their agitation programmes.
On the occasion of completion of 200 days of Amaravathi agitation, the farmers vowed to intensify their agitations further to save Amaravathi capital city.
NRIs hailing from AP and residing in over 300 cities across the globe have extended support to farmers and held protests and demonstrations in 300 cities across the world demanding Jagan government to continue Amaravathi as the only capital of AP.
But Jagan government is determined to set up three capitals for AP and making fast moves to shift Secretariat and head offices to Vizag as soon as possible.
TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who conceived the idea of "Amaravathi capital city" and laid foundation along with PM Modi and took up Amaravathi construction works during his tenure as CM between 2014 and 2019, extended TDP's full support to Amaravathi agitation. Chandrababu vowed to intensify Amaravathi agitation futher till Jagan drops three capitals decision and declares Amaravathi as the only capital of AP.
