About 20 students belonging to Andhra Pradesh applied for Telangana Eamcet 2020 (TS Eamcet 2020) to be held in July.
Even after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and formation of Telangana State in June 2014, students belonging to Andhra Pradesh continue to apply for Telangana Eamcet for admissions into engineering and b.pharmacy courses.
As per AP Reorganisation Act, there is 15 per cent unreserved quota in Eamcet in both Telangana and AP.
AP students are eligible for 15 per cent unreserved quota in Telangana and Telangana students are eligible for 15 per cent unresered quota in AP.
However, there are not much takers in Telangana for AP quota. But there is huge demand in AP for Telangana quota.
This is because, parents in Andhra want their children to study in Hyderabad which has good number of top colleges as they believe that their children will get good placements if they study in top Hyderabad colleges.
This year, 20,000 AP students applied for Telangana Eamcet. These students opted for Hyderabad as exam centre. But due to corona lockdown, they have move to their native places in AP.
AP students and parents have requested TS government to allow AP students to appear for Telangana Eamcet from exam centres located in AP.
The Telangana government is planning to allow AP students to appear for TS Eamcet from AP centres this year considering their request.
Since Eamcet will be held online, it would not pose much problem irrespective of whether students appear for exams from Hyderabad or AP.
